i made it!

i made it safe and sound to sapporo. almost exactly 24 hours of straight traveling. first of all, i need to say a big thank you to my dad for writing me an email "reminding me" that i leave at 1:10 am on sunday, not pm....which was new news to me. if it wasn't for him, i would have shown up 12 hours late to my flight and dont know what i would have done!

my first flight from lax to korea was 13 hours long, and im very lucky it was a night flight. i had an isle seat with a bassinet so eli fell back asleep and stayed that way for a 6 hour stretch. woke up, ate, and went back to sleep for a couple hours. overall the flight was great. i decided korean air is my favorite airlines because you have a lot more leg room, the flight attendants have really cute outfits, and they are so helpful and kind. they helped me with all my bags on and off of each flight which i could have done myself, but was still so so appreciated. and they all fell in love with eli which is always good.

then we had a 3 hour layover in korea. i waited for my stroller, walked around to explore a little bit, found a free internet cafe, wasted time on the internet, changed eli's clothes and diaper from his blowout (at least it wasn't on the plane, right?), fed him, walked to our gate, stood around for a minute, and then it was time to board! so the layover went by pretty fast as well.

my second flight from korea to sapporo was almost three hours long. i thought this one would be so easy - feed eli, eli falls asleep, wakes up just in time for landing, feed him again, and get off the plane - but that wasn't the case. i dont know if eli was done with planes or what, but he was not happy the majority of this flight. it was to the point where at three different times the flight attendants came over to see if they could help make him stop crying. and it worked every time. annoying. but anyways, we were sitting in the same isle as another baby which also wasn't too happy, maybe a little more so than eli. the poor people on the flight with us. okay, maybe it wasn't that bad, but i feel like it was im sure because i was the one trying to get the crying to stop. the flight finally ended.

i was moved up to the front of the immigration line, taken through secret doorways, and had little fences moved so i could use the elevator (and yes, it made me feel special and cool). i made it to the baggage claim and luckily got my bags right away. got a cart, loaded the cart all the way up with the three suitcases and car seat, and then was pushing eli in his stroller with the diaper bag. i think people could tell i was sort of having a difficult time, and im sure i stood out because i was the only white person there. luckily a coach of a hockey team cleared all his players out of the way and helped me move my stuff to close to the front of the line. so thank you random hockey team for letting me cut, and for keeping eli entertained in line.

then the excitement. i leave the doors from customs to see my mom and dad waiting for me! ahh so fun. my dad took my cart full of things, my mom took the stroller with eli, so i was free to not awkwardly push and pull anything for the first time in (what seemed like) forever.

we came back to my parents house (which i love), i skyped with tanner, and then with my sister jordan, then i took a much needed shower and got ready in time for my sister shannon to get back from school. i actually got so excited to see her i let out a little yell, which scared eli to the point that he started crying. sad, but i was excited!

that evening we went to capricciossa's (the best pasta in the whole entire world) for shannon's birthday dinner (oh yeah, did i mention we got in on my sister's birthday?) which was great. eli was sleeping on and off, but he was such a trooper through the night.

so that brings me to now. i woke up and fed eli at 2, and then again at 4:30 and he decided it was time to play after that. so i brought him downstairs so i could keep myself entertained by the computer, laid eli down on a blanket on the floor right next to me, and now he just fell back asleep.

so now we are headed back up stairs to sleep some more, i am not sure for how long, but im excited.

HOORAY! I am SO glad to hear that you arrived safely and sanely. :) It sounds like Eli was the perfect baby on the long flight. I'm sorry that he got fussy for the 2nd, but glad you got some help. :) Yeah for a great airline! I had been thinking about you all weekend and am glad that everything turned out well. Also, Happy Belated Birthday!! Did you do anything fun? Have a great trip and can't wait to see pics when you get home.

Glad to hear that everything went well on the trip over (well, for the most part it sounds like). Have a great trip and remember to take lots of pictures you can post later.

Also hope you had a fun birthday. Tanner had called me about helping with something but I wasn't able to and I was so bummed. Hopefully it all worked out and you had a great day.

See you in a couple weeks.

I am so glad that everything went so good (other than the flight from Korea to sapporo). Mom said your hair is sooooo cute so you definitely need to post some pictures! I love that you got to go through secret passage ways and the hockey team let you cut in line. That is great! I am so jealous that you got cappriosa and that you are with the family!

Glad the travelling was pretty much a success! Don't worry about the second flight, because you are right--when you're the one trying to keep your baby quiet he seems much louder to yourself then others. At least it was only on the shorter flight too.
What a fun reunion with your parents and Shannon!
