buenos aires 2013

we spent the last couple days of our trip back in feb/march of 2013 in buenos aires with will and kristen. 

we were staying in a studio apartment right across the street from a big mall where we had internet access at mc donalds, watched a couple movies, and ate at the food court a time or two.

the city came to life when we did our free walking tour through the city. it started here at the capital building.

where the tour ended. we ate at subway and then went to a famous restaurant for dessert that i dont have any pictures of or even remember the name of. whoops.

we walked around the boat that the king used to sail around the world in.

 another day we walked around a japanese garden, and ate at la cabrera (pictured below) which was delicious (even for those of us who didn't eat meat). i had to unbuckle my belt i ate so much.

too much time has past, so i'm going to let kristen's blog explain a little about buenos aires- 

 While in BA on the back end the highlight for me was the free walking tour we took. It took us two days to finally get there but it brought the city to life. The tour guide described a young argentina that suffered under dictatorships for most of its history (until the last 30 years). There are many missing children from parents who were murdered and life was so strict and miserable that now in reaction, people celebrate speaking out and there is graffiti everywhere and an average of 4 protests a day. Their president is a female who plans to change the constitution so she can stay in power so we’ll see how long they hold on to the relative freedom. We missed the announcement of the new pope by a couple of weeks but that would have been amazing as well. There were tributes to dante’s inferno via architecture, opera houses, salsa dancing, the pink house, and one of the thinkers that are highlights I still remember from the walking tour. They also have the widest river, I thought it was the ocean but the water was moving sideways and brown so I was confused when I saw it. We had great weather and walking around was a great time.
