december + christmas in santa barbara

2012 has come and gone, so now is the time to do a december update.

the boys were very excited to decorate for christmas this year. when we were setting up our $30 fake tree tanner and i got the first year we were married (and every time we take it down tanner asks if we should give it to goodwill), we watched a movie and drank hot chocolate per tradition. the boys actually helped me with putting the decorations on the tree and did a great job with some helpful coaching from their momma.
eli wanted to put the star on the tree, but when tanner lifted him up he got a little nervous, so isaac happily took over the task.
my long haired boy. but really, it was super long.
as we were walking out the door for church i realized we were all coordinating. which really isn't hard in my group, since i usually dress in these colors.
we had a lot of rainy days this month. eli was super excited to wear his rain boots to school.
we picked up tanner from work and went over to burbank to universal studios for a few hours. there aren't many things for poor isaac to do, but we still had a lot of fun.

we've had a lot of rough sleeping nights here lately. i'm not sure whats going on because usually these boys are very good sleepers... but like i always try to tell myself, its just a phase. and hey, if cuddling on the floor seems like a better option than sleeping in your bed, then so be it.
lexi, brad, and zoe came into town on lexi's birthday. we went to real food daily for lunch and walked around the promenade afterwards.
 brown eyed boy.
 sunset. santa monica. love.
my family came to visit! they went to mexico and stayed with us for a few days at the end of their trip. i wish i got a picture of the sleeping arrangements.... it was a sleepover party with my parents on a blowup mattress, shannon on the couch, and ryan on a sleeping mat on the floor. all this completely filled our living room. i'm glad my family is willing to cram in my tiny apartment so we can hang with them :).
eli was sick. can't you tell he had a fever of 101+ in this picture? i thought during nap time some of us could take a stroll down the beach... but of course eli had a hard time containing himself and had to jump off his favorite "ship".
the next day eli skipped school because he was sick. we went to griddle for breakfast then went on to the observatory for the afternoon. it was a beautiful clear day and we had a lot of fun. eli keeps asking to go back to "that space place". sadly my fam left that evening.
an elf dropped off a present for eli and isaac. we were brushing teeth when we heard a knock on the door, and the boys found this gift left outside. it was the polar express book so they got to have a fun surprise book to read before bed.

this year we were in santa barbara for christmas. it was so fun having everyone in the family together for christmas.
eli and his many expressions
 christmas sunday
isaac got to put the angel on the tree, which is 9 ft. tall btw.
christmas morning! eli got a balance bike again this year. he got a cute wooden one last year but the tire keeps having issues so he hasn't been riding it for most of last year. so we tried again with a highly recommended brand thinking that he'd be excited to ride again. instead, eli came in and saw his bike (unwrapped) and yelled, "i hate bikes!" and ran out of the room crying. luckily about 3 minutes later he decided he liked it and we had no more tears the rest of the time. isaac got a scooter and loves it. he totally cruises on that thing. they also got a pirate ship from tanner and i, and they gave each other legos.
we went to the santa barbara zoo one afternoon with everyone.
isaac thought he was being sneaky eating cake...
using finger paints which was part of the art backpack each of the grandkids got from mumsy and pio.
on the 28th of december tanner and i celebrated our 6th year of marriage.
luckily, the last day we were staying in sb before heading home, bj got his mission call! it was such a special experience and i'm so proud of this boy. he got called to serve in the mexico city, mexico mission. here he is with all his nephews/future missionaries.

2012 was such a fantastic year for our family. we were very blessed, and extremely grateful.
